California Insurance Agents Announce Proposition 33 The 2012 Automobile Insurance Discount Act SACRAMENTO, CA –

California insurance agents and brokers, consumer advocates who are committed to shopping for the best deal for their clients, announce the 2012 Automobile Insurance Discount Act was officially assigned Proposition 33 by the Secretary of State’s office.

Proposition 33, the 2012 Automobile Insurance Discount Act, will reward Californians for following the law and maintaining car insurance, and allow Californians to shop their loyalty discount to competing insurance companies. Current law allows a discount, but only if a customer stays with the same insurance company.

Proposition 33 will increase competition, lower prices and insure more Californians. “Proposition 33 was written to be inclusive. It will save Californians money and help us reach our goal of insuring everyone on the road,” said Mike D’Arelli, Executive Director of the American Agents Alliance.

“We encourage everyone to read Proposition 33. It is a good idea.” Proposition 33 will: Protect those who have lost their job or been furloughed by allowing them to continue receiving their loyalty discount, even if they do not pay automobile insurance for up to 18 months. Protect members of the military by allowing them to qualify for the loyalty discount even if they cancel their automobile insurance while they are overseas. Protect Californians who face unexpected hardships that force them to stop paying their automobile insurance, for whatever reason, for up to 90 days. Protect families’ bank accounts by allowing parents that qualify for the loyalty discount to pass the discount to the children that reside with them. “

When Californians were in control of their loyalty discounts, from 1996-2002, more Californians were insured and more competition existed between insurance companies,” continued D’Arelli. “Proposition 33 rewards Californians for following the law.”
