Getting Your Team Onboard with Blogging

As an agency owner, you have a pretty hectic schedule. Trust me, I understand! As an agency owner myself, I know how hard it can be to write up a quick blog post for the company website. While it may not be easy to write a post a day (or even a week) by yourself, this does not mean all hope is lost.

Have you considered having your entire team of agents contribute to the company blog? If you can get your team on board with blogging, you may be able to have at least one post up a week (or more if you are feeling ambitious!) So, how can you get this going? Well, as the Captain, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure everyone is on board and ready to go.

Here are a few tips that have helped motivate my team:

#1: Create an editorial calendar. What is better than having a calendar of topics laid out at the start of the month? Not much (for a blogger, anyways!) Have each agent or employee sign up for one day of the month. It is best if you have at least 1-2 posts going up a week, so be sure to take that into consideration while making the calendar. Once you have this made up, everyone will know exactly what he or she is responsible for and when it should be completed and posted.

#2: Hold brainstorm sessions. Not having any luck with topic ideas? Hold a quick brainstorm session with the team to circulate a few ideas. It doesn’t have to take a while to do so—half hour, tops!

#3: Share best practices. We all browse the Internet, right? If someone finds an article with blogging best practices, it should be shared with everyone. If you want to get really serious, name an official “blog master” of the office. This person would be in charge of relaying information and guiding the team. This may be the agency secretary or even an intern. Remember: It is important to motivate each other, as well as hold each other accountable. As a team effort, tackling the company blog may not be as time consuming or painless as it may seem. Good luck!
