Social Media and Your Agency Homepage

The rise in social media has necessitated a change in the way we do business in our industry. Whether it’s Facebook or Twitter, Foursquare or LinkedIn, we all have spent large amounts of time navigating through these platforms in order to spread our agency’s brand.

One of the main goals of social media is to bring potential customers to your agency website, and there are a variety of ways to do this. However, one of the first things you need to do with your social media accounts is to assimilate them to your website. Your website is what has the information users need on CA home insurance and other policies, so it’s essential they visit there as well as your social media accounts.

Sound difficult? It actually takes more common sense than you think.

  1. Add a real-time display for Twitter and Facebook posts: On one hand, you’re providing visitors with what’s going on with your social media accounts, and on the other, you’ll be adding a little pop to your homepage. Every time your agency Tweets or posts something on Facebook, it will link directly to your feed. This has become common practice for many companies, so make sure you follow suit.

  2. Buttons! Does your website have social media buttons? Your homepage should include buttons with the links that go to all of your social media accounts. Whether it’s Facebook, LinkedIn, Tumblr, or your RSS feed, you should have a button for every account that you actively update. Additionally, your website should also include “share” buttons which, when clicked, will share your page on one of the customer’s social media accounts.

  3. Make your URL visible: One mistake many small businesses tend to make is not adding their homepage URL to the description on their social media accounts. How are users supposed to follow up to your website without a URL? For Facebook, it’s best to include it under “Info,” and for Twitter, put it in the description that is directly under your username. One of the most important aspects of a social media strategy is the relationship between your accounts and agency homepage. When done correctly they should feed off each other, leading customers from social media accounts to your homepage and vice versa.

If your agency follows these easy steps, you should be in line for increased traffic to your insurance agency website.
