With the passage of AB 800 (Chapter 254, Statutes of 2009), beginning January 1, 2010, individual and business entity licensees are required to file their renewal online if the service is available. The online renewal service will guide you, step-by-step, through the renewal process. You may access CDI’s online renewal service to renew your license now by clicking on the following link: http://www.insurance.ca.gov/0200-industry/0050-renew-license/0100-renew-online/index.cfm.
Please note that your license will not be renewed until all required continuing education hours, including any required ethics courses, are completed. You can verify the number of continuing education hours you have completed this license term by visiting our website at www.insurance.ca.gov and on CDI’s main page, select Check License Status in the upper right-hand area on your screen.
When reviewing the Check License Status web page, please review both the Total Continuing Education and the Additional Education information to ensure that the required continuing education hours and, if required, the ethics course hours are met. Failure to renew your license on time will result in a 50 percent penalty fee to “late renew” the license. You can not late renew your license using the online renewal service. In addition, all endorsements, appointments, and solicitor relationships must be reestablished with the appropriate forms and fees. There is no grace period. Agents and brokers have one year from the expiration date to “late renew” the license; after which time they must file a new application, re-take the license examination if it is required, establish new appointment(s) and pay the appropriate fees.
Please note that when renewing both the Accident & Health and Life-Only Agent licenses there is only one fee due of $128.00. Individuals may, for good cause shown, request an exemption to the online renewal requirements.
Such requests may be made by contacting the Producer Licensing Bureau’s Toll-Free Hotline at 1-800-967-9331. These requests should be made several weeks prior to the expiration date to ensure a timely renewal.
